New Commitee Announced!
The AGM was held in the Chopping Block Cafe on 31 August and hosted 53 members and guests including the State Minister for Small Business, IT and Multicultural Affairs, Mr. Chris Cummins. The air was positive and outgoing president Steve Chellingworth welcomed Hans Van Roy as the man to chair the committee for the new term.

July 2005

At the recent Network Meeting we announced a new initiative . . . Chamber of Commerce "Mates Rates" and now we would like to expand on that concept and offer you the opportunity to be a part of it.

This is how it works . . . If you have a service or supply goods (as you do in business) there may be an opportunity to offer them at a special rate to members of the Chamber. Alternatively you may be able to offer a "value-add" to your sale as an incentive.

This is why you benefit . . . there are currently around 100 names on the database, a ready made market of potential customers with a vested interest in doing business in the area of the Chamber's influence. Offering a special price or extra value to these people is your way of saying thanks for being an active member in the Buderim Chamber Network and a smart way to tap into this market.

What you need to do . . . Decide that you want to be involved and come up with an offer. Let us know via email to mates@chamberofcommerce.buderim.biz or fax to 5476 7074. We understand that you may not be able to maintain the same offer throughout the season etc., so if this is the case, maintain flexibility in your offer but keep it exclusive. What we will do . . . we will promote via the email database, specific offers on a regular basis. The frequency depends on the level of involvement.

Once enough businesses are active and listed, a special section will be prepared on the web site which will make known those businesses which are active and the details of the actual offer/benefit to the Chamber Membership.

When you need to act . . . NOW! The first email is going out this Thursday so if you want to be first cab off the rank, get the details in now! Let's get this initiative flying and get the networking umm working! It is so easy to complain that business is slow and wish things were different, here is your opportunity to make a difference by stimulating business between our businesses. I urge you to get behind it and be a part of something bigger, what have you got to lose?

July 2005

The Chamber held another of the popular Business Network Meetings at Capers in Burnett Street on the evening of July 20. There was a great buzz in the group with a mix of business people normally active in the Chamber and quite a few new faces. Capers were the sponsor for the evening and treated all guests to a fantastic fare of tasty finger food and refreshments. Network Meetings are a smart way of getting to know others in business, where you can discuss your issues, bend the ear of the committee members and catch up on the general goss. Like every function of the Chamber you only get back, that which you put in.

Speaking of functions, the 2005 Annual General Meeting is penciled in for August 31. This is the single-most important meeting of the year and the one you really should not miss! Please mark your diary now

June 2005

Your Buderim Chamber of Commerce takes pleasure in reporting that Maroochy Council has contracted a company to build new entry statements for Buderim. This is the culmination of a Chamber initiative to have the broken signage on Jones Road replaced and quality signage found for the major entry points of Buderim. After a lengthy design and consultation process, our Councilors report they could be finished as early as August this year. So keep your eye out for the stylish and attractive new signs to be erected on Mooloolaba Road , Jones Road , Mons Road, Crosby Hill Road and Ballinger Road .

The Committee has been focused on more Networking opportunity and as part of that strategy saw the first General Meeting of the Chamber for a long time, held on the brisk Winter Wednesday evening of June 22nd. Special guest and keynote speaker was Maroochy Mayor, Joe Natoli. There was a good turnout despite a reasonable number of positive rsvp's not showing.

The Mayor gave us his views on topics as diverse as amalgamation of the Councils, to how we should work together to create positive outcomes for Buderim. Joe talked a lot about his bigger view of the future for the Shire and the many problems facing Council, businesses and residents alike. When it came to question time, he was reminded of the issues more specific to Buderim. Councilor Steve Dickson fielded a question on the Dixon Road to Motorway link up and the Crosby Hill Road to Dixon link which would hopefully alleviate some of the Buderim through traffic. Results to the current plans by Council are expected by 2007. The Chamber is appreciative of Mayor Natoli's interest in Buderim and we gained some good insight to communication with Maroochy Council.

We are online!
Hi there, thanks for visiting the Chamber's new web site! A lot of thought and work has gone into the design and layout, with an aim to create an easy to navigate and informative resource for you. We are keen to get feedback on anything here, so please feel free to drop us a line with comments.

Resignations
In news we regretfully announce that Ken O'Flaherty is unable to maintain his position on the chamber executive and has resigned his post in order to focus more of his efforts on his business. Ken has been an important member of the team and his senior level of experience will be missed. Kylie our membership officer has also left us, and Buderim! I am sure you will join the committee in wishing them all the best in their endeavours.

New Committee Members
In the meantime we recently welcomed the services of Wayne Slager from Your Loan Adviser and Mal Thompson from Top Pools and Spas on to the chamber committee. Their fresh perspectives will be of great benefit to the chamber.

Buderim Markets
Finally I must let all of you know how pleased the Committee is with the inaugural Buderim Sunday Markets. Members and non-members alike have expressed delight at the increased trade and positive vibe that came from this event. Thanks go to the Buderim Lions and to Laurel Asimus for their determined efforts to add life to the CBD on the weekends. The next markets are to be held in the council carpark behind Buderim Central on Sunday 8 th of May from 10am to 2pm , I encourage everyone to take a look.
